A-UN – Pair of Japanese coloured Inari fox clay dolls (Dealer: Sezuan antiques & art) – Folk clay fox dolls as messengers of god based on ‘Cult of Inari’ (which was the most popular during the Edo period), enshrined at ‘kamidana’ (household Shinto altar) for the everyday life of ordinary people. Relationship of ‘A-Un’ (Yin‐Yang as inspiration and expiration, or alpha and omega), as male image of ‘A’ and female image of ‘Un’. Edo-Meiji period, 19th century. approx. H 11cm (4.33in) In used condition, with restoration at the neck of male image
