Primitive Japanese Folk Buddhist Wood Carving Bishamonten Statue  (Dealer: misakadou) – Primitive wood carving of Bishamonten (Vessavana) with humorous expression instead of its usual stern expression, as a folk Buddhist statue created by a ordinary people, so-called ‘Minshu-Butsu’ (‘Minkan-Butsu’), which would be enshrined at a hall of some rural small village for the local religious belief of their everyday life, as the result of creation which is composed of the Buddhism which was handed down from the Chinese continent and the inherent Japanese primitive religion with with its ideology. Fine antique condition, with damages at the copper decoration of kabuto helmet and repair at pedestal, but its belongings are remained as appreciated. The hall at back would be for attaching halo (but missing). Very scarce Buddhist art piece specially for its large size, which came from the collector as its provenance. approx.
