Japanese coloured wood carving Bato Kannon equestrian statue (Dealer: Sezuan antiques & art) – Very rare coloured wood carving of equestrian statue of Bato Kannon (Horse-Headed Kannon / Hayagriva) posing a peculiar mudra called ‘Makoin’ that represents the shape of a horse’s mouth in front of its chest, tend to be often seen in Boso region (Chiba prefecture), Meiji period, 19th century. The sculptor name, “Chutaro Takahashi” at the back. Some expected paint-exfoliation and lack of tail as seen. Total size with stand: approx. H 26 cm (10.23in)
