Antique Japanese Dragon God festival hemp flag Edo 1837 (Dealer: Sezuan antiques & art) – Custom-ordered festival flag (probably hemp) printed by batik, with design of dragon embodied the three primitive (original) Japanese gods (‘kami’) of Suwa Daimyojin, Hakusan Daigongen, and Hachiman Daibosatsu, expressing the uniqueness and the depth of such local but essential Japanese cult in Shinano region (Nagano prefecture) of its provenance. Attached with original wooden box written its identity. (ordered by a samurai named Yoshimori Sakamoto and made by an artisan in Echigo region (Niigata prefecture) in Tempo 8 (1837)) In very fine antique condition for this type of item, though some restorations as seen.
