Antique Japanese Buddhist hanging scroll of Kubira Edo period  (Dealer: Sezuan antiques & art) – Buddhist print of Kubira of Hoshuzan-Hashikuraji temple (Tokushima prefecture) called ‘Konpira-san’ as popular name. Originally, deity of the waters of the Ganges (Sanskrit: Kumbhira), then adopted into the Japanese Buddhism to be the guardian deity of marine traffic as well.
Early type of Kubira before the separation of Buddhism and Shintoism (government policy during the beginning of the Meiji period), Edo period, circa 18th – early 19th century. The condition is as seen, with damages including moth-eaten. approx. 128 x 32.5 cm (50.39 x 12.79in)
