Antique Japanese Kusarikatabira Chain Armour Edo period  (Dealer: Ishii Collection) – Japanese flexible armor made of interlinked iron-rings called ‘kusarikatabira’, as a protective clothing under yoroi armor used by samurai or ninja in Edo period. In aged rusty condition, with expected cut and congelation by rust, though retaining the original form of what kusarikatabira is, as seen. approx. H 68 cm (26.77in), W 93 cm (36.61in)

A beauty of haggardness and rust, reminds of a famous haiku phrase of Basho…

Natsu-kusa ya
Tsuwamono-domo ga
Yume no ato

(Summer grasses, All that remains, Of warriors’ dreams)
