Japanese lacquered canteen Edo period 17c (Dealer: minakata antiques) – Columnar wooden canteen coated in lacquer with ‘wabi’ three lines of mature gold paint, as a sophisticated and quality traveling utensil of a person of exalted rank in the early-mid Edo period. Also often arranged to be displayed as a single flower vase for tea room besides its original usage, as an Aesthetic of Tea (‘wabi-cha’). In fine antique condition, with aged damage at the root of top. Original metal fittings, and replaced string in the later years (but not modern string.) Attached with an old wooden box. approx.
