100 DOLL HEADS (Dealer: titcoRet) – A lot of 100 unfinished heads for Japanese hina dolls, made of tōso, a traditional Japanese modeling material made from paulownia wood powder and a binding agent. Shōwa period, Japan. Each head measures approx. 5 × 3.5 × 4.5 cm (2 × 1.4 × 1.8 in). The photos show 90 heads; 10 additional heads are included, making 100 in total. A hole at the bottom of each head allows a stick to be inserted during the process of shaping and painting the face. Some heads can stand on their own, but most cannot. The tōso material sheds powder. Condition as shown.
