HITOGATA (Dealer: titcoRet) – Twelve pieces of traditional Japanese paper dolls with the prayer’s name and age as the substitutes for the prayers in hope to protect them from evils sprit, called ‘hitogata’ (ref. http://sanpai-japan.com/2017/07/04/oharae/). Taisho-Showa period, early 20th century. approx. 15 x 8.5cm (5.90 x 3.34in). Actually very rare find, since they were basically given to the priests who throw them into running water or burn them in a holy fire in the end of ceremony. Some expected damage due to aging as is as seen.
