EMA OF HORSES – Two Japanese votive wooden tablets (Dealer: Sezuan antiques & art) – Two pieces of worshipper’s wooden tablets offered for Shinto shrine, called ‘Ema’ (lit. ‘Horse picture’) with design of sacred horses, as the holdover from of offering living horses. Meiji – Early Showa period, 20th century. approx. W 17cm (6.69in) / W 15cm (5.90in)
