MONKEY OF SUBSTITUTION (Dealer: Sezuan antiques & art) – 5 pieces of cotton textile amulet dolls of the belief in ‘Koshin’ local folk belief based on Chinese Taoism as “Monkey of Substitution” so-called ‘Kukuri-zaru’ (or ‘Migawari-zaru’), tied up its arms and legs together and hung on the house frontages in the particular area of Kyoto-Nara region to get disasters in place of the local people. Showa period, early 20th century, Japan. approx. 11-13cm each (4.33-5.11in each) Some color fade-out.
