EMA WITH BREASTS (Dealer: titcoRet) – Japanese votive wooden plate offered for the temple/shrine so-called ‘Ema’ (lit. ‘Horse picture’) attached with wood carving breasts praying for safe childbirth and for ample breast milk as very rare type based on the folk belief from Eifuku-ji temple in Chiba Prefecture. Showa period, 20th century. Plate: 39 x 14.5 cm (15.35 x 5.70in), Breasts: H 10.5 x D 7.4 cm (4.13 x 2.91in). Stands on its own because of broken and lack of lower part of plate as is.
