MAN ON TOP AND WOMAN ON TOP (Dealer: hotoke) – A contrasting pair of amateur, loosely executed hand-drawn manuscript copies on washi paper, after Edo-period shunga (erotic prints) by Maruyama Ōkyo and others. Sheet sizes: approx. 33 × 24 cm (13 × 9.4 in) and 32 × 24 cm (12.6 × 9.4 in). The details of the upper copy are unclear, while the lower depicts the position known as chausu (“tea-grinding”), in which the woman takes the upper role, likened in Edo-period sexual vocabulary to grinding tea, and inscribed as after Ōkyo’s drawing. Age-related wear, folds, and creases, yet overall in good condition, as seen.
