SECRET TALISMAN WRITING MANUAL (Dealer: titcoRet)
Japan, Meiji period (1868–1912). Accordion-style folding book. Closed: H 18.5 × W 5.5 × D 2 cm (7.3 × 2.2 × 0.8 in); fully extended: approx. W 450 cm (177 in).
A handwritten manual detailing the creation of numerous talismans (ofuda) used in folk magic and ritual practices to counteract illness, misfortune, and spiritual afflictions. While many symbols are indecipherable and not standard writing, the manual includes rare designs, such as talismans intended to exorcise fox possession (kitsune-tsuki). Primarily written in ink, with some later ballpoint annotations, it is extensively illustrated on both sides, though about half of the verso pages remain blank. Age-related folds and creases are present, consistent with historical use.
