MAGATAMA (Dealer: hotoke) – A massive, handcrafted wall-mounted piece from the “Ippin Kagu” (One-of-a-kind Furniture) series, loosely shaped like a magatama (ancient comma-shaped jewel), created by Sankō Kōdō, a woodworking studio in Hida-Takayama, Japan. Mid–late 20th century. Approx. 77 × 36 × 21 cm (30.3 × 14.2 × 8.3 in). Completed with only the minimal touch of human craftsmanship to the natural form of wood, this work blurs the boundary between furniture and art, embodying the refined sensibility and organic aesthetics characteristic of Hida woodworking. Age-related wear and surface patina consistent with time.
