Paik Sang Jin, now 95, continues to paint actively and is known for incorporating contemporary motifs into traditional Korean materials and sensibilities. The lettering on the can reads Dongwon Tuna, the name of a well-known Korean tuna brand. The artist’s name appears at the lower left, rendered like a seal mark. On the reverse, beneath the artist’s signature, is the title Sara namgi (“Survival”). A work with a gentle sense of humor.
