FISH KANJI BOARDS (Dealer: titcoRet) – A set of 23 wooden study boards likely used by sushi or restaurant apprentices to learn the names and kanji of various fish. Japan, Shōwa period (20th century). Each approx. 25 × 7 × 0.6 cm (9.8 × 2.8 × 0.2 in). The boards include not only commonly known fish but also more unusual species, such as river fish, often written with complex or rarely used characters. Age-related wear present. Slight residue may transfer when handled. One board shows slight warping. Condition as shown.
