TRAVELER’S GUARDIAN BUDDHA (Dealer: titcoRet) – A set consisting of a small portable Buddhist figure (kaichūbutsu) and a devotional scroll, intended to be carried while traveling as a prayer for safe journeys. Japan, Edo period (1603–1868). Buddha figure approx. 10.2 cm (4 in) in height; wooden box approx. 13 cm (5.1 in) in height. The scroll is printed with numerous divine names. The figure has lost its facial features through age and wear, and appears considerably older than the box and scroll with which it is now kept. Slight wood powder may be present. Condition as shown.
