ARMOR (Dealer: hotoke) – An original Japanese hand-painted study of a haramaki (Japanese body armor), attributed to Mōri Baien, aka Minamoto no Takatoshi (1798–1851), a late Edo-period samurai who served as a hatamoto (shogunal vassal). 19th century. Approx. 114 × 79 cm (44.9 × 31.1 in). Said to have belonged to the Kusunoki family and to be associated with the medieval warrior Kusunoki Masashige. Titled “Complete Illustration of the Kusunoki Family Haramaki at Kanshinji Temple, Kawachi Province,” with inscriptions describing the armor. Signed “Minamoto no Takatoshi”. Originally part of a hanging scroll, later removed and preserved as a makuri (unmounted painting). Age-related damage including insect damage, tears, and creases is present. Condition as shown.
