SUNRISE (Dealer: hotoke) – An original hand-painted Japanese landscape on silk by Utagawa Shigekiyo (active circa 1860–1890; dates of birth and death unknown), a pupil of the ukiyo-e master Utagawa Hiroshige. Approx. 39.5 × 100.5 cm (15.6 × 39.6 in). Fine waves in gold pigment emerge from pale blue, while every outline seems softened by a dreamlike morning mist. A refined and atmospheric sunrise scene. Age-related damage and deterioration are present, as shown. As seen in the last photo, a piece of old newspaper used by a later owner during the mounting process remains attached to one edge, along with age-related tears.
