ASYMMETRICAL MEDICINE CABINET (Dealer: titcoRet) – A small Japanese wooden medicine cabinet from the private collection of a collector of antique medicine cabinets. Edo to Meiji period (19th century to early 20th century). Approx. 41.2 × 38.3 × 12.6 cm (16.2 × 15.1 × 5 in).
Its asymmetrical arrangement of drawers, differing on the left and right, and unusually small size make it a distinctive example. The upper sections on both sides and the front were refinished with lacquer in the Shōwa period (1926–1989) for preservation, while the interiors of the drawers were treated with persimmon tannin. The finishes are uneven and show some peeling. The back panel is slightly warped. Some drawer pulls are missing, and some drawers cannot be opened. Signs of age and wear. Condition as shown.
