KEMARI, TSURUSHI-BINA (Dealer: hotoke) – Very unusual type of ‘Tsurushi-bina’ (Hanging stuffed Hina dolls) in Shinshu region, as a form of the devotion based on Koshin brief of “57th of the sexagenary cycle”. Showa period, 20th century. A motif of ‘Kemari’ (Ancient Japanese footbag), with the implication of yin-yang duality and a disembodied spirit of “Tree” (= “Ball” under the cognition from such Eastern spiritual thought) as a figure of monkey (like ‘Migawari-zaru’ (Hanging monkey effigy)). Actually in used condition, with expected stain, open seam, and restoration as seen. approx. L 17cm (6.69in), W 12-15.5cm (4.72-6.10in), String 15cm (5.90in)
