FLOWING BUDDHA
FLOWING BUDDHA (Dealer: titcoRet) – A weathered Japanese wooden Buddhist figure known as ‘Nagare-butsu’ (Flowing Buddha), Edo period (circa 17th–19th century). Approx. 18.5 × 8 × 14 cm (7.3 × 3.1 × 5.5 in). Refers to a category of damaged or broken Buddhist images that were once abandoned, buried, or cast into rivers or mountains for religious reasons. In some cases, such figures were later recovered by believers, re-enshrined, and quietly preserved, allowing them to survive into the present. Due to erosion, wear, and long exposure, the specific Buddhist identity can no longer be determined.
