AINU WOMAN NURSING BEAR CUB (Dealer: hotoke) – A Japanese clay figure doll depicting an Ainu woman nursing a bear cub. Shōwa period (20th century). Approx. 12.5 cm (4.9 in) in length — an evocative scene reflecting the practice of raising cubs within the community. Such cubs were kept only for a few years before being ritually sent off in the iomante (bear-sending) ceremony. Age-related wear is present, as shown.
