KOKDU, Escorts of the Dead (Dealer: kikue) – Korean wooden funerary figure known as Kokdu, traditionally placed alongside the deceased to offer comfort and companionship in the afterlife, unearthed in what is now North Korea. Mid-20th century. 8 × 7 × H 28.2 cm (3.14 × 2.75 × 11.10 in). The hairstyle represents the traditional topknot used when wearing formal Korean headgear (see reference image; source: Namuwiki). The base appears to be a later addition. Some expected wear and patina from age and burial.
