AWA-ITABI (Dealer: Sezuan antiques & art) – Distinctive stone tablet called ‘Awa-Itabi’ as burial marker from Awa Province (in Tokushima Prefecture, Japan), with a Sanskrit character of hriiH which stands for ‘Amidanyorai’ (Amitabha Tathagata). Chlorite. Thinner carving and smaller size comparing to the eastern type. Late Muromachi period, 16th century. The condition is as is as seen. approx. 32 x 15 x 1.5cm (12.59 x 5.90 x 0.59in)
