BEHIND A SCREEN (Dealer: hotoke) – Very unusual and refined hand-drawn imaginative ‘shunga’ (pornographic painting) on silk, expressing a hidden back scene of what’s going on behind ‘tsuitate’ (partitioning screen) minimally with only fingertips of woman, as a very rare find of modest but and so erotic Japanese art piece. Probably a custom‐made scroll for use of ‘yukaku’ (geisha house), as amorously but sophisticated high-class mounting with quality details of flower-brocaded silk, blue-glazed ceramic roller ends, and refined metal fittings. Red-sealed but unidentified painter, Showa period, late 20th century. Total: 39.7 x 164.5cm (15.62 x 64.76in)
