BODOKO – Japanese boro textile sheet for childbirth 19-20c (Dealer: Sezuan antiques & art) – ‘Bodoko’ (or Bodo) as folk ‘boro’ textile sheet for receiving baby at the time of birth by spreading underneath the pregnant woman who is holding rope hanged from ceiling beam in half-standing position.
Thick layered textile with indigo dye and cotton cloth based on ‘sakiori’ textile woven with a woof made of cloth or silk and torn into thin strips. Originally aged fragments of threadbare textiles from Edo or Meiji period in 19th century, and well-used and succeeded with blood, sweat, tears, and waters through generation to generation until Mid Showa period in Early-Mid 20th century as possibly.
