Japanese Boro textile sashiko quilting noragi sleigh-jacket Meiji 19c (Dealer: Sezuan antiques & art) – Very special noragi work wear for pulling ‘hakozori’ (snow-sled like a box often used to transport heavy materials), made of strong ‘sakiori’ (textile woven with a woof made of cloth or silk and torn into thin strips) strengthened by ‘sashiko’ quilting at right shoulder and left armpit for fastening the rope of sled. Quite a unique design composed of its beautiful gradation of indigo dye and its asymmetry of sashiko quilting, which is only seen in Yamagata shonai area in Tohoku region. Very rare piece of museum-quality as it’s not too much to say, in very fine antique condition with expected sign of use as seen. approx. L 64 cm (25.19in), W 44.5 cm (17.51in)
