BLACK INARI FOX (Dealer: hotoke antiques) – Old Japanese folk clay doll of Inari fox holding a scroll in the mouth burned in a fire once and survived, as the one of a pair of messengers of ‘kami’ (god) based on ‘Cult of Inari’ enshrined at ‘kamidana’ (household Shinto altar) for the everyday life of ordinary people. Edo-Meiji period, 19th century or a little later. approx. H 13cm (5.11in)
