EEL HOOK (Dealer: Jinta) – A traditional Japanese mingei tool made of iron, used for catching eels. Shōwa period, mid-20th century. Approx. 73 cm (28.7 in) in length. Following the 1876 Haitōrei (Sword Abolition Edict), the demand for swordmaking declined, and some blacksmiths began producing tools such as these instead. Their forms vary from one craftsman to another, giving each piece a distinctive and often surprisingly beautiful character. Condition as shown.
