ENKU-STYLE KOPPA-BUTSU (Dealer: Sezuan antiques & art) – Anonymous ‘koppa-butsu’ Japanese Buddhist statue carved from wasted wood chip, early Showa period, early 20th century, succeeding well to the sharpness and simplicity but also suavity of the style of ‘Enku-butsu’ Buddhist wooden statues carved by the Buddhist monk ‘Enku’ (1632-1695) who has carved about 120,000 Buddhist statues during his lifetime (confirmed nearly 5,300 statues until today). approx.
