KONSEI-SAMA FOR FERTILITY DANCE (Dealer: Sezuan antiques & art) – Japanese folk wood carving phallus called ‘Konsei-sama’ attached to back of the man’s role of ‘Hyottoko’ (Clown with distorted face) or ‘Tengu’ (Long‐nosed goblin) in ‘Taue-odori’ (Dancing for planting crops) or Dengaku ritual music and dancing based on the local fertility belief. Edo-Meiji period, 19th century. Photo#11 and #12 are the scenes of such ritual occasion as its reference (Not attached with this piece).
