Japanese gold-foiled lacquer tray 19th century (Dealer: misakadou) – Refined lacquered wood tray coated with gold foil used for ‘chakaisseki’ (the light meal served in the tea ceremony), Edo-Meiji period, 19th century.
Considered to be the one of multiple pieces as a set originally, and probably used only a few time for very special occasion. Expected sign of use at gold surface, some small chips at the edge, and aged deterioration as seen. Please use it very gently and very carefully, since its gold foil is very thin and very fragile with no enough strength. (like its gold foil peels off when wiping hard with cloth)
approx. D 27cm (10.62in), H 2cm (0.78in)
