GOLD FOX GODS (Dealer: hotoke) – Pair of gilt wood carving ‘Tamagiku Inari-daimyojin’ (Inari fox gods of Tamagiku shrine) enshrined in zushi miniature shrine altar together with gofu paper talisman. Taisho – Early Showa period, 20th century, Japan.
One holds key in the mouth and the other puts ‘hoju’ (precious orb) on head as unusual type. Elaborate and lovely. Expected aged deterioration as seen. approx. H 11cm (4.33in), W: 12cm (4.72in), Depth 7cm (2.75in)
