GOSHINTAI (Dealer: hotoke) – Enshrined sacred wood carving phallus (approx. L 77cm (30.31in)) called ‘Goshintai’ (lit., ‘Body of Kami (God)’) in Shintoism. 19th – early 20th century, Japan. Primitively sublime carving of such rare large size, in well-touched and well-used condition by the people. Erects but not standable by only itself. (*Basically a paddy field boat in pics #10 is not attached.)
