KANAWA (GOTOKU) (Dealer: Sezuan antiques & art) – Japanese ‘gotoku’ iron trivet used in ‘hibachi’ brazier or ‘irori’ sunken hearth, also called ‘kanawa’ (lit. ‘iron ring’) which is also used as the headgear like a crown for a hexing ritual called ‘Ushi no toki mairi’ (Visit to a shrine at dead of night to put a curse of death on somebody). Meiji period (1868-1912). approx. D 15.8cm (6.22in), H 9.5cm (3.74in)
