SHOMEN KONGO (Dealer: hotoke) – An original hand-painted Japanese hanging scroll depicting Shōmen Kongō, a Buddhist deity associated with protection against illness and misfortune. Shōwa period, mid 20th century. Ink and color on paper. Approx. 52 × 150 cm (20.5 × 59.1 in), including the hanging cord and scroll ends. The unusual rendering of the figures, their narrative quality, expressive brushwork, and vivid colors evoke a visual sensibility that feels surprisingly close to modern manga and anime. Age-related deterioration is present throughout. The mounting has areas of peeling, and one scroll end comes loose easily. Condition as shown.
