HYAKUTOKU KIMONO – Japanese juban textile undergarment (Dealer: Sezuan antiques & art) – Folk women’s undergarment (juban) of local folklore in Kanazawa region called ‘Hyakutoku-Kimono’ (also ‘Hyakken-Kimono’) tailored with the waste pieces from cutting cloth given from the neighbors with wishing for smooth delivery, pregnancy, and vigorous growth. Quite a flowery tailoring with silk crepe (chirimen) or tie-dyed cotton (shibori) as it’s for such wishing, as it’s not for the function. Meiji – Showa period, 19th – early 20th century. In used condition with expected slight deterioration as seen. approx. L 124cm (48.81in)
