SENTAIBUTSU (Dealer: titcoRet) – A small wooden Jizō figure characterized by its simplified form and modest halo originated from a group of so-called Sentaibutsu (lit. “Thousand Buddhas”), large votive assemblages of similar devotional images dedicated in great numbers. Japan, Edo to Meiji period (19th century). Approx. 11 cm in height (4.3 in). Stands independently but is somewhat unstable. Evidence of age-related wear is present, including minor wormholes at the bottom with slight powder shedding. Condition as shown.
