JOSEON DYNASTY HAKEME CHAWAN (Dealer: minakata antiques) – Early Joseon Dynasty, 14-15th century. Korea.
This is the pottery chawan called ‘hakeme’ in the Japanese tea term painted with white slip by brush-stroke technique (‘hakeme’) coated in transparent glaze, which had been made in Korean Peninsula until 16th century (hardly made since then, because of white porcelain manufacturing instead).
Naturally and aesthetically distorted form as a chawan of ‘wabi’. Originally a “destroyed” piece, but properly gold-repaired (kintsugi) in the later years. Please actually enjoy its various aesthetics on your palm.
approx. D 12.5-14.5cm (4.92-5.70in), H 3.3-6.0cm (1.29-2.36in)
