TANUKI (Dealer: hotoke) – Lovely quality wood carving tanuki (raccoon dog) statue, Showa period, 20th century, as a Japanese traditional auspicious okimono for prosperous business, with such characteristic big balls between legs, a hat (which stands for keeping away from disaster), and a sake flask (for natural virtue) and a passbook (for reliance) in each hand. And, yes indeed a very nice face as the highlight. approx. H 28cm (11.02in). Chip at hat, small chips at ears, and a crack at hip as is as seen.
