BRONZE PLATE WITH A SCENE OF CHILDREN (Dealer: misakadou) – Meiji period (1868-1912), Japan. approx. 12.5 x 9.5cm (4.92 x 3.74in), H 1cm (0.39in)
Refined bronze plate with well detailed scene of children playing with a tortoise, made by the metalsmith who had basically worked for the accessory of Japanese sword before the Meiji Restoration (as such metalsmiths lost the main business because of the decrease of samurai and the demand for the sword decreased in the modernization after the Edo period), in fine antique condition as is, with expected peeling of gold paint.
