NUDE 1918 (Dealer: hotoke) – Japanese woman taking off juban (undergarment worn under kimono) in forest. Antique Japanese oil painting on canvas, with the painter’s sign of ‘T.MIYATAKE. 1918. September′, approx. 33.5 x 45.5cm (13.18 x 17.91in). Quite a scarce find with prominent influence of ‘Taisho Roman’ (Taisho romanticism) as “East meets West.”, particular westernized Japanese traditional art style only seen during the Taisho period (1912-1926). In such damaged condition due to aging as is, with aesthetic paint-crackle and peeling that make this painting itself much better, in my eyes.
