OFUKE WARE DISTORTED CHAWAN (Dealer: titcoRet) – Mid Edo period, 18th century, Japan. approx. D 13.9 x H 8.5cm (5.47 x 3.34in). Originally a failed tea bowl thrown away for such distorted and broken form when fired in very high temparature in the kiln, but put them together with refined ‘gin-naoshi’ (silver-repair) in the later years then handed down as a ‘denseihin’ (reference: http://www.aisf.or.jp/~jaanus/deta/d/denseihin.htm) through Japanese tea-connoisseurs till today. Mature and elegant ‘keshiki’ (“landscape”) with such aesthetic signs of high frequent use. No leak. No wooden box.
