FIVE WISE MONKEYS (Dealer: titcoRet) – Ink painting on washi (traditional Japanese handmade paper), depicting five monkeys — an expanded interpretation of the famous “Three Wise Monkeys” motif. Showa period, 20th century, Japan. 108.5 × 76.5 cm (42.71 × 30.11 in). Originated from a defunct temple in Nagano and conveys a moral teaching: “See no evil, speak no evil, hear no evil, possess no evil, think no evil.”. Ships rolled. Some creases and wrinkles due to age.
