PALETTE – Japanese Ema votive wooden plaque (Dealer: Jinta) – Originally an‘Ema’ (lit.‘Horse picture’) as wooden wishing plaque dedicated to Shinto shrine by the worshipper, but actually used as a palette for painting in later years, as an unusual piece. Quite an abstraction. Late Edo – Meiji period, 19th century. approx. 19 x 15 x 1cm (7.48 x 5.90 x 0.39in)
