BANDORI – Practical Japanese mingei back pad (Dealer: Sezuan antiques & art) – Woven backpack cushion pad for carrying loads, called ‘Bandori’ as a particular local mingei farm tool in specially Yamagata Shonai area in Tohoku region.
Unique and rare type made of straw, cotton, waste pieces of boro textile, and fishing net, which was for practical use as it’s not like usual decorative type of ‘Iwai-Bandori’ (Festive Bandori). Meiji – Early Showa period, early 20th century. approx. L 82cm (32.28in) The condition is as is with some aged stains.
