Because of its solidified glass material in inside and at spout (pic#7), once used as a pottery crucible for melting glass raw material in the furnace by Japanese glass-blowers, so-called ‘Japan-tsubo’ (lit. Japanese jar).
In well-seasoned condition as is as seen.
