DEITIES (Dealer: antiques.iwata) – A pair of ancient Japanese wood carving images of male and female god once enshrined into the shrine, the Medieval times (13-17th century) at least, Male god: H 22 x 14.5 x 8.5cm (8.66 x 5.70 x 3.34in), Female god: H 21 x 16.5 x 8cm (8.26 x 6.49 x 3.14in). Unlike the Western sacred images, those kind of Japanese sacred images were protected to keep away from the people’s eyes as not originally presupposed to expose to the public, as the deities with the feelings of awe and veneration from the worshipers. Aged deterioration as is as seen. Progression of deterioration itself is over, but slightly wood dust come out when shakes. Other objects like display plate, candle stands, etc. are not attached. Only the deityes and attached custom‐made paulownia box as seen in the last photo.
