SHOKI – Old Japanese roof tile statue for protection (Dealer: misakadou) – Japanese tile statue of ‘Shoki’ (‘Zhong Kui’ as folk Chinese deity in Taoism said to prevent plagues and ward off evil beings) displayed on the house roof as talisman, from Kinki region, Meiji period (1868-1912). Body and glance are made for overlooked position for placing on roof. Lack of the tip of sword in right hand. approx. H 19cm (7.48in), W 28.5cm (11.22in), D 16cm (6.29in)
